Who Is Credit Acceptance
Credit Acceptance Corporation is an auto finance company base in Michigan that purports to help credit-challenged consumers obtain auto financing regardless of their credit history.
In reality, rather than helping, CAC actually preys on credit-challenged consumers. The truth is CAC intentionally sets up buyers to fail. Why? Because when the buyer fails, CAC can actually make more money than if the buyer had paid their loan in full. CAC has been exposed as a predatory lender who colludes with their dealership partners to mislead credit-challenged consumers and trick them into signing high-cost loans on used cars.
COMPLAINTS
Credit Acceptance's business practices have led to numerous complaints and lawsuits from consumers, investigations by a number of states, and recently the CFPB and the NY Attorney General have announced a joint lawsuit against CAC for its abusive business practices.
The ironic thing is that CAC’ uses the tag line “We change lives!” Most people would believe that means their life will be improved. But the truth is, CAC takes advantage of the fact that credit-challenged consumers have limited financing options.
Credit Acceptance and their dealership partners have been accused of increasing the cost of vehicles for credit-challenged buyers, requiring add-on purchases, adding hidden finance charges to the cost of the vehicle, and charging high interest rates regardless of the consumer's credit scores. The end result is many of CAC's customers, after all is said and done, have been left worse off than they were before accepting a loan with CAC.
Are you being sued by Credit Acceptance?
Did you know Credit Acceptance Corporation's business model is based on the expectation that the consumers they lend to will default on their loan? They actually expect you will fail because when you do, they can collect even more money from you. And when their buyers fail, their tactic is to sue them in court. CAC knows that most consumers in this situation will not show up in court and fight, which means CAC will receive a default judgement that they can use to garnish wages, place a lien on consumer's homes or other property, or attempt to collect in some way for years and in some states, the law allows them to attempt to collect on the judgement for decades.
If the lawsuit is currently open, we may be able to help you turn the tables on CAC, BUT...

Was your vehicle repossessed by Credit Acceptance?
Repossessing a vehicle is another way Credit Acceptance expects to generate more revenue. CAC can take your vehicle after you've defaulted on the loan, sell it at auction - and in most cases a vehicle at auction sells way below what you owe on the debt - and tack on additional fees and expenses to your remaining debt. You still are responsible to pay the balance of the loan AND now you pay them even more because you have to pay the charges related to the repossession.

Did the price of your vehicle go up after being approved for Credit Acceptance financing?
Consumers have alleged that after being approved for financing from CAC, they discovered the cost of the vehicle they were purchasing had gone up. When asked about the increase, the dealership informed the buyer that CAC charges the dealer a large bank fee or finance charge for the financing and that cost needs to be passed on to the buyer by increasing the cost of the vehicle.
In some cases, consumers were not aware that the dealership passed financing fees on to the buyer by increasing the cost of the vehicle until well after the sale and paperwork were complete.

Were you told CAC requires you to purchase add-on products like GAP insurance or an extended warranty?
Consumers have alleged that they were forced to purchase costly add-on products like GAP insurance and extended warranties. They allege the dealerships told them that CAC required these items as a condition of financing approval.
